The Russell Homestead, a 3.1-acre parcel located at 20 Round Hill Road, was donated to the Bethany Historical Society in 2005. The site is at the southern border of Bethany close to the town line with Woodbridge. The present acreage was part of a larger farm with the farmhouse dating from 1750.
The Farmhouse interior formerly had a center chimney mass, but this was removed in the early- to mid-20th century. The interior layout consists of two parlors with a narrow room between, used as a game room by the Russell children. In the northwest corner of the house is a birthing room [where all 12 Russell children were born]; moving down the hall is a bathroom, pantry, and finally, the kitchen. A back porch and fresh water well room are located at the rear of the house. There are four small bedrooms upstairs. BHS members have used various Russell family artifacts to create a house museum in the pre-World War II period.
Outbuildings include two barns – one a long wagon shed – and two chicken coops. The field area included former gardens and fruit trees.
